Who is this
The person behind the mask
Hey! For those of you who don't know me, I go by Koshun in the virtual world. Pretty neat, I know. I've always been the quiet type, and I tend to keep to myself, so I wanted to give you a little insight into who I am, what I love, and how you can get in touch with me.
The main thing is that I am a mathematician at heart. My mind works in logic, patterns, and numbers. As a kid I was fascinated by how much of the world is built on numbers. Mathematics always felt like the language of the world to me, the one thing that unified everyone, and that is how I knew I would end up in a highly quantitative field.
Work takes up a large portion of my life, but I still make room for the things I enjoy: video games, anime, language learning, and exercising. I try my best to focus on other things, though sometimes work gets the best of me. I am fairly introverted, but I do love a good conversation about academics, work, or life in general. I am always open to hanging out or hopping on a call. Mostly, though, my goal is to keep improving myself.

- I take the vague version of a question and turn it into something that can actually be measured, and I say so when the data cannot answer it.
- Wrote the methodology the team scopes new work against, so the same question stops getting built three different ways by three different people.
- Run a weekly session on applied AI for my team and a cross functional forum for the wider data science group.
- Currently figuring out where large language models genuinely help an analysis and where they only sound like they do.

Systematic Trading Research Group, Part Time
- Build and run the research pipeline for intraday equity signals, mostly markout work around the closing auction.
- Before that, crypto microstructure: testing features across assets, horizons and exchanges so nothing gets cherry picked on one lucky pair.
- All Python on a shared research box, written so a teammate can rerun any number in it without calling me.

- Python and R programming against strict data standards, mixed models for repeated measures, and deliverables that had to survive outside review.
- Built web apps so scientists could dig through safety data themselves instead of waiting on me every time they had a hunch.
- Built a tool that compares the same dataset across two systems and points straight at the rows that disagree.
- Prototyped an NLP pipeline that pulled clean fields out of documents nobody wanted to read by hand.
